Highlights of the March DAR meeting

The Lost Pines Chapter NSDAR held their regular meeting on March 19, with regent Mary Edith Scot asking attendees to stand for the DAR Ritual and the Pledge of Allegiance, which was led by Helen Nelson. Janis Flanagan led The American’s Creed and Debbie Sewart led the Pledge to the Texas Flag.. Regent Mary Edith Scott gave a National Defense Report
The DAR essay winners were introduced by Sue Lane McCulley, who then presented them their certificates and confirmed that they had received their savings bonds.
The 5th Grade American History essay winner was John Reece Prokop of Smithville.
The 8th Grade American History essay winner was Shelby Gordon of McDade and the Good Citizen Award was presented to Smithville High School senior Murphy Granillo.
Guest speaker Harold “Skeeter” Sewart presented the program, “Moviemaking in Smithville,” which was very informative and interesting. Ella Sheffield reported that we now have 83 members. Michelle Kee, Pam Small and Sue Lane McCulley reported on the state conference. Five chapter members attended. Terry Conrad introduced her guest, Maribel Rozendal. Regent Mary Edith Scott announced that registration and fees for those attending the Continental Congress (June 29-July 3) must be turned in by April 15th. ViceRegent Michelle Kee announced the birthdays and thanked hostesses Terry Conrad and Cathy Smith.
Field Trip on April 16
Our April 16th the DAR will go on a field trip for their monthly meeting. The group will meet at Orsak’s restaurant at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments and a brief meeting. Our hostesses will be regent Mary Edith Scott and vice regent Michelle Kee. The group will tour the Fayetteville Heritage Museum and Square with docent Irene Polansk. Donations are not required at the museum but are much appreciated. Those who want to have lunch will meet back at Orsak’s. Car pooling is suggested.
Important dates and things to remember:
• Most of our regular meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, September through May.
• Bring aluminum pull tabs to be donated to McDonald House and also Box Tops, Campbell Soup Labels and other coupons that we donate to our DAR schools.
